Kaspersky: Servers for DDoS attacks in Russia rise 45% in 2022

MOSCOW, Feb 21 (PRIME) -- The number of local command servers used to manage DDoS attacks against Russia increased by 45% and the number of targets of such attacks doubled in 2022, antivirus software maker Kaspersky said on Tuesday in a statement.

In the middle of 2022, Kaspersky registered growth in the number of attacks on its honeypots imitating Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices connected to the network from Russian IT addresses.

The number of unique devices used for attacks increased then by 40% on the year, but the situation changed at the end of 2022 and the indicators returned to the level of late 2021–early 2022.

Cybersecurity company Rostelecom-Solar said that starting from the end of March 2022, perpetrators understood that the external traffic was cut off and DDoS attacks became much less dangerous and strong. It was the moment when proxy servers on hostings inside the country were created and used.
